2010 Sam Phillips Music Celebration!

Enjoy the 2010 Sam Phillips Music Celebration in downtown Florence, Alabama, the birthplace of Sam Phillips! This year's event will take place Saturday October 16, 2010 in downtown Florence, AL!

The event will feature:

- Adam Jones, of The Levees, and his band.

- Atlanta bluesman Theodis Ealey.

- Rock 'n' roll pianist Jason D. Williams, who has appeared at each Sam Phillips Music Celebration.

- Sonny Burgess and the Legendary Pacers, one of the last touring Sun recording artists.

- “The Heartbeat of the Muscle Shoals Sound” featuring James LeBlanc, Dylan LeBlanc, Gary Nichols and Angela Hacker.

The artists represent rock 'n' roll, the blues and country music, which Sam Phillips played a role in recording and promoting during his lifetime.

Tickets are $20. The gates open at 5 p.m., and music will be from 6-11 p.m.

The festival had been in January during the week of Phillips' birthday.

“This will give us an opportunity to grow the event,” said Jerry Phillips, Sam Phillips' youngest son.

Phillips said he liked having the events at the Marriott Shoals Conference Center, but the facility could only accommodate 800 people.

This year's celebration will be outdoors on Court Street between Tennessee and Tombigbee streets and will be open to those 21 and older because alcohol will be sold at the event.

“If the community will support this thing, it could turn into what the Sam Phillips Celebration was originally intended to be — something that would grow and grow and grow every year,” Phillips said. “We looked at all types of venues. We just felt like downtown Florence would be a great place to have it.”

So if you're in the area, be sure to come by and support the Godfather of Rock and Roll, Sam Phillips Music Celebration!
