Program for Elvis Birthday Celebration
The program for this weekend at Graceland:
FRIDAY, JANUARY 7
Fan Club Presidents' Event
10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Memphis Marriott East, 2625 Thousand Oaks Blvd., Memphis. Elvis fans are invited to celebrate the work of Elvis Presley fan clubs during this special event. In addition to celebrating and recognizing the work of fan clubs, the event will feature a program of EPE company updates and special announcements, including the latest on EPE media, marketing, licensing, merchandise, new exhibits and more. The host will be Tom Brown, vice president of original productions for Turner Classic Movies. This year's special guest will be Jim Murray, whose musical career includes stints with the Stamps Trio, Inspirationals, and Orell Quartet. He joined Jake Hess and The Imperials in 1965. With the group, Murray recorded with Elvis in sessions from May 1966 to June 1971. Official Elvis Presley Fan Club presidents will receive an invitation and registration form via mail to reserve their tickets for the event. Tickets for the general public and other fan club members to attend are $12.00. (Unforunately, Gordon Stoker will no longer will able to attend this event as previously scheduled.)
Official Elvis Insiders Reception and Graceland Tour
6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. An event exclusively for members of the Elvis Insiders. A private evening tour of Graceland Mansion in all its holiday splendor and a reception across the street in Graceland Plaza. The reception will not be a seated "theater-style" event but will be a progressive event moving about the plaza area and will include Elvis' airplanes, The Elvis Presley Automobile Museum, Elvis in Hollywood exhibit in the Sincerely Elvis Museum and Elvis Lives exhibit. Complimentary hors d'oeuvres and cash bars will be available. Special guests for the event will be Julie Adams who costarred with Elvis in "Tickle Me," Larry Domasin who costarred with Elvis in "Fun in Acapulco," Jennifer Holden who costarred with Elvis in "Jailhouse Rock," and Elvis’ personal jeweler, Lowell Hays. Interested in the musical side of Elvis? Meet Jim Murray who performed with Elvis as a member of The Imperials. As has become tradition, just for the dates of the Elvis Birthday Celebration, special Elvis exhibits from the Graceland Archives will be in place inside the residential area of the mansion. The special evening tour of the mansion includes the audio tour presentation, plus Elvis Christmas music playing in the background. Decorations for the 2010/2011 holiday season will be in place. Because of space limitations, Elvis Insiders may purchase only one guest ticket in addition to their own. Parking in the main Graceland parking lot is free beginning at 4:30 PM. Tickets are $48.00 for adults; $26.00 for children 7-12; children 7 and under are free.
9:30 p.m. - 12:00 Midnight. Elvis Presley Car Museum, Graceland Plaza. Come hang out and enjoy a private party with your fellow Elvis fans. A disc jockey spins Elvis records for your listening and dancing pleasure. Cash bar featuring adult beverages (ID's checked) and soft drinks. Outdoor smoking area designated - no smoking inside. A wristband ticket allows you to come and go from Club Elvis as often as you like during the evening in order for you to enjoy all the other activities on the property. Tickets are $20.00.
D&N's and Elvis Meetup's Gospel Tribute to Elvis
11:59 p.m. Graceland Gates. D&N's Elvis Presley Fan Club and the Elvis Meetup Fan Club invite you to join their annual tradition. Meet at the gates of Graceland at midnight on Elvis' birthday as they join fans from across the globe singing familiar gospel songs, and of course, "Happy Birthday to Elvis."
SATURDAY, JANUARY 8
Elvis Presley Day Ceremony
9:30 a.m. Front lawn of Graceland. Enjoy a ceremony with Graceland/EPE officials, a birthday cake cutting and a proclamation of Elvis Presley Day by Memphis and Shelby County officials. Free admission. Complimentary birthday cake and coffee served at the Chrome Grille restaurant across the street from the mansion following the ceremony. Not able to be in Memphis? Live Entertainment in Ticket Pavilion by Terry Mike Jeffrey
10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Graceland Ticket Pavilion. After enjoying Elvis birthday cake, enjoy live Elvis music performed by Terry Mike Jeffrey inside the ticket pavilion at Graceland. Free.
Conversations on Elvis
2:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. Memphis Marriott East, 2625 Thousand Oaks Blvd., Memphis. Hear stories from Elvis' friends, bandmates and more, as they share some of their favorite memories. Special guests for the event will be Julie Adams who costarred with Elvis in "Tickle Me," Larry Domasin who costarred with Elvis in "Fun in Acapulco," and Jennifer Holden who costarred with Elvis in "Jailhouse Rock." Memphis Symphony Orchestra presents Elvis Birthday Pops
8:00 p.m. The Cannon Center for the Performing Arts, 255 North Main Street in downtown Memphis. Celebrate the king's birthday with this annual tribute. Terry Mike Jeffrey and his band return for another hip shakin' concert performing Elvis' chart-topping hits that will have you on your feet. Steven Reineke conducts. Southern Gospel Celebration at Graceland with Elvis' Imperials
8:00 a.m. - 9:15 a.m. Graceland. Join Elvis' Imperials for a live concert in the ticket pavilion at Graceland. Enjoy classic gospel songs performed by one of Elvis' favorite groups while enjoying the beauty of Graceland in the early morning. Tickets are $25.00.
