An enigma from August 16, 1977
Astronomers listening for signals from outer space have tuned their radio telescopes to a bandwidth centered around 1420 MHz where there is little background interference.Nothing has been heard on this frequenzy so far... Except...
On August 16, 1977 scientists were thrilled when a telescope at Ohio State University picked up a burst of radio waves. The so-called Ohio State Wow Signal came from a cluster of stars about 200 light years away, but it never happened again, and its origin and purpose, if any, remain an enigma.
