Update on Sonny West
"I have just returned from Nashville. I was at the hospital with Sonny from 11:00 am yesterday until 9:30 last night, and from 9-9:40 this morning.
Sonny has pneumonia, and a staph infection. He has a catheter and yesterday his urine was dark brown due to him being dehydrated. His blood pressure yesterday afternoon was so low, they thought the bp machines weren't working and after 3 machines realized that the 89/79 was close to being correct. His color in the morning was good but as the day progressed it got worse. They had taken him down to draw fluid from his lungs for a culture. However, in spite of all this, he was able to converse from time to time, and his only complaint was of being so tired. When the dr came in to discuss the pneumonia and staph infections, he ordered massive doses of antibiotics, and also to flush with fluids. The antibiotics caused his tongue to get raw and he couldn't eat. Steve Kelly went to the store and bought him some yogurt so he was able to eat something. This morning when I went in his color had improved, he was very alert, sitting up and really looked so much better. His urine was light yellow, his bp was up, so all in all,l I felt he had made a turn for the better. His potassium is still low. About an hour after I left, he had a coughing spell, couldn't breathe, and his oxygen dropped. They gave him a breathing treatment and he is feeling a little better now. Please continue to keep him in your prayers as he's not out of the woods yet. The dr said depending on how his infections healed, they plan to get him up Monday or Tuesday to start walking. He also said they expect Sonny to be in the hospital at least another week. Thank you all for your love and support. I printed out all the emails and FB messages I had received and took them for he and Judy to read. I will continue to update as I know.
